We are currently looking for two caring and enthusiastic persons to join our Castlebrae Glebe team in Craigmillar, Edinburgh. Our team provide high quality care at home services to older people in a Bield housing development. We aim to maximise the independent living skills of older people while creating and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for everyone.

The Role:

As a Care Assistant you will be providing person centred care and housing support for identified service users receiving a care service in a housing development or within the immediate local community. You will work as part of the team ensuring a high quality care and support with a focus on maximising the independent living skills of older people and maintaining a safe and comfortable environment for the tenants of the development.

Hours of employment are:

- 37.5 per week, 5 out of 7 days on a rota basis.

- 16 per week, 2 out of 7 days on a rota basis.

Rota will include mornings, evenings and weekends.

If you are invited to attend an interview, we will discuss your availability; however, you should be able to work at our peak times throughout the day and at weekends and the shifts you are likely to be expected to work are:

- 7.00 am - 4.00 pm, including a 1-hour unpaid lunch break

- 1.00 pm - 10.00 pm, including a 1-hour unpaid dinner break

What’s it like to be a Care Assistant at Castlebrae Glebe?

Castlebrae Glebe is located just off Peffermill Road, in the centre of Edinburgh, with numerous green spaces around the corner to wander and relax during your lunch break and Holyrood Park only a mile away. The developments is easily reached by excellent bus links and has a small car park should you choose to drive. The area has good amenities with the Craigmillar Shopping Centre a short walk away and a quick drive to Fort Kinnaird Retail Park.

As a Care Assistant at Castlebrae Glebe you will be part of a tight knit team looking after a small development of 12 tenants aged 50 and over. You will form close relationships with the then, providing one-to-one care, starting the day with personal care, assisting with housework tasks, as well as administering their medication. Patience and Mental Health awareness are both important as you will assist tenants who struggle with dementia and learning disabilities in your daily work. Your day will finish with carefully logged notes, care plans and handover to the next shift, therefore basic Administrative skills are crucial as well.

Role Requirements include:

- Experience of providing person centred care or support to older people is desirable

- Genuine interest in, and, an open flexible approach to, the promotion of excellent standards of care for older people

- To have the ability to provide One to One Care: to provide care and support so enabling a service user to feel valued and respected as an individual

- To be able to apply Observation Skills in a Care Setting: to recognise changes in behaviour which may indicate the requirement to alter care and support

- Emotional Resilience: To be able to cope with and respond to challenging situations, e.g. changing behaviour, bereavement

- Ability to work over a shift rota including days, evenings and weekends

Caring nature and willingness to learn are the most important requirements as full training and mentoring is offered.
