About the Role – Support Worker

Our Edinburgh Children Services, Edinburgh Childcare 4All, supports mainstream childcare providers in Edinburgh to include children with additional support needs in their settings. As a support worker you will work between nurseries, after school and holiday clubs across the city, to meaningfully include children and meet their individual needs.

This role also involves working with childcare staff to improve their knowledge and confidence, when supporting children with a range of disabilities and implementing strategies in the setting to promote inclusion. You will also work alongside other professionals to provide a support package suitable to the individual child.

You would not be required you to support with medication, however, you may provide personal care (including intimate care), and support young people with aspects of their general welfare to meet their individual needs.

What you need to know

Hours: 10 hours per week, between the hours of 9am-6pm Monday-Friday (no weekends or evenings). Visit times with our young people are usually around 2-3 hours, doing around 3 visits per week, with the same or variable customers per week. Candidates should be flexible to meet their needs.

Location: Various educational settings throughout Edinburgh.

Driving Licence desirable but not essential, as long as able to travel (as required) to meet our young people’s needs.

Experience/qualifications/key skills required

Experience of working in a similar role and environment is desirable as is a willingness to undertake any personal development opportunities. You should have a care related SVQ Level 3, or the willingness to gain this qualification in a given timescale. You should possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative.
