The Service


Hillcrest Futures are looking to recruit Peer Support Workers to join our Perth and Kinross Adult Drug and Alcohol Services as part of a new exciting project to work alongside Scottish Prison Service Recovery Officers and NHS staff within HMP Perth as part of a multi-disciplinary recovery team.

The aim is to reach out to people in prison to engage them in a recovery focussed enviroment. The project will also work with the families of those involved in recovery to prepare all parties for eventual release back into their communities and family home.

The Role

Peer Support Workers will work as part of a multi-disciplinary recovery team operating within the prison that supports those in crisis as a result of addiction. You will have lived experience of recovery and will work alongside SPS Recovery staff to enage residents in their own recovery journey.

As a Peer Support Worker you will:

  • Be expected to encourage those individuals to work with the recovery team through delivering one to one support and group activities.
  • Offer support to deliver recovery cafes and promotion of peer naloxone.
  • Work to involve the individual’s family or external support network along with partners operating in the community to ensure there is effective support when re-integrated back into their community and, or family home.

In addition the role will be to maintain effective working relationships and boundaries to protect your own and others recovery as well as promoting awareness of the range of recovery support and activities available to people in recovery by encouraging enagement with community activities.

You Will

  • Have personal lived experience.
  • Have experience of supporting individuals and knowledge of recovery support in the Perth and Kiross area.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work under your own initiative.
  • Hold, or be willing to work towards SVQ2 Health and Social Care or have the equivalent experience.
