Scottish Autism seeks to promote and provide care, education, support and opportunities for autistic people of all ages throughout Scotland. We work tirelessly to create a world where autistic people are understood and enabled to lead meaningful, fulfilling and happy lives as valued members of the community.
A key expectation of everyone who works for Scottish Autism is that they live and breathe our values; Collaboration, Change Makers, Compassion and Contribution. Our values come into play throughout everything we do at work – how we work together, and how we deliver services to the people we support and to the people we work alongside.
The Centre for Practice Innovation (CPI) is our organisational hub for the development of practice and leads on the delivery of our staff learning and development. We undertake participatory practice research and seek to facilitate and inform research activity that is compatible with our organisational values.
We are looking for a committed and motivated Community Advisor to join our CPI team. Reporting to the Senior Community Advisor, your role will be to deliver a range of services to the autistic/autism community and other stakeholders, including the Advice Line and Right Click.
In this role, you will:
· Provide advice, support and guidance to autistic people, their families and involved professionals via our advice line.
· Support parents and carers to access and apply our Right Click programme to the support of their child.
· To support individuals and their families who access NDAS and, under supervision, to contribute to the assessment process.
· Deliver a range of standardised autism training opportunities to a range of external customers.
The successful candidate will have:
· Contemporary knowledge and understanding of autism and autistic people and their families across the lifespan
· Autism Practice or lived experience with the knowledge to apply theory into practice
· Experience of supporting distressed individuals and coping with high risk situations
· Active listening Skills and able to respond empathically to distressed or confused individuals
· The ability to translate complex theoretical knowledge into accessible and practical advice
We offer comprehensive training, opportunities for personal development and a generous benefits package including a range of discounts on high street retailers, gyms and travel and life assurance cover.
