About us:

At Scottish Autism we acknowledge the specialist support our staff provide to autistic individuals, therefore those doing support work are known as Autism Practitioners. We provide outstanding training and are continuously improving to ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service. This post is a good opportunity for those with a generic support worker experience to specialise.

Scottish Autism is dedicated to enabling autistic people to lead happy, healthy and fulfilling lives. We believe in the power of relationships to transform the lives of the people we support. We help build a more caring, compassionate, and inclusive Scotland, relationship by relationship. Our people work in teams, supporting each other through the challenges and triumphs that happen every day. Our organisation is our people, and the human qualities they bring to their roles.

About the job:

On a day-to-day basis, our Autism Practitioners enable autistic people to complete all activities of daily living, which includes personal care and household chores. You can also expect to be out and about supporting autistic people to access their communities and to take part in activities of their choosing. We work to an agreed support plan for each individual, monitoring progress and collaborating to develop and plans when appropriate.

It is sometimes demanding but always emotionally rewarding work, and for many of our staff, the best job possible. Our leadership culture is about creating a positive and supportive environment for the people we support and our staff.

About You:

It is not necessary to have experience of working within social care. What is more important is that you share our values and are looking to work in a job where they can be put into practice. Are you willing to learn and develop into the role, to build both your personal and professional qualities as you do? We provide outstanding training and ensure all our Autism Practitioners are supported and have the skills to deliver a quality service.

We encourage and welcome applications from people with lived experience of autism.

Scottish Autism offers:

  • 32 days holiday (which increases with your length of service)
  • Sector leading training from day one, including fully funded support to complete your necessary SVQ
  • Non-contributory life assurance scheme
  • Workplace Pension
  • Wellbeing support
  • 3 pay points for Support Workers (Autism Practitioners), where you progress at your pace as you develop.
  • Regularly benchmarked rates and benefits to ensure our rates are competitive.

All our posts are subject to a PVG Disclosure check. Scottish Autism is a smoke free organisation.

New employees are required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within 6 months of starting in post.
