An exciting opportunity for 5 new Autism Practitioners has arisen for the Scone Home Support team. The posts will primarily involve supporting a young autistic man who is intelligent but who can struggle with everyday tasks. As he enjoys many sporting interests, a reasonable level of fitness is desirable. Support is provided 24 hours a day and includes weekend work and night shifts.

Scone Vacancies - Autism Practitioner and Practice Advisor | Scottish Autism

As an Autism Practitioner, experience of working within social care is desirable but not essential. We are seeking to appoint people with general life skills, and those who share our organisational values. We are especially keen employ individuals of any age who are willing to learn and develop within the role. We offer accelerated career progression through an extensive autism specific training programme linked to the specific support you will provide. There will also be the additional benefit of direct and regular training input from Studio III Psychology Services.

You will work alongside other team members including an Autism Practice Advisor charged with the team’s on the job training, and the Senior Autism Practitioner (Team leader). The post requires an ability to work in partnership with the young man himself, his family, health professionals and other stakeholders, all of whom have the joint aim of ensuring this young man can thrive and pursue his life goals and aspirations

On a day-to-day basis, you will be responsible for enabling him to take part in his chosen activities, maintain his tenancy and offer support to make the decisions that matter to him. Required support may include personal care, promoting independence, community inclusion, and support with household chores etc. You can also expect to be out and about a lot in Scone and Perth, facilitating engagement in activities of his choice. Support may at times include participation in cycling, swimming, long walks and generally having fun. Some activities may require using the team’s car to drive to the locations involved. This is an exciting time to join Scottish Autism as we adopt a coaching and mentoring model of support, where this service will have its own full-time Autism Practice Advisor, and Specialist Psychology support.
