Job Purpose

Our Personal Assistants support people to lead full, active and socially connected lives, supporting people to achieve the things that matter to them.

Applicants should have, or be willing to work towards, a qualification meeting the standards required for registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).

Job Details

We have a vacancy for a Personal Assistant (male preferred) to join the team that supports two men who live in their own home independently in Merchiston area. This position is for 20 hours per week.

About this opportunity

They are both friendly and kind and have many interests.

The first man is very friendly relatively independent. He likes to attend Gardening workshops, listening to music, buying music CD’s and DVD’s. He particularly likes Cliff Richard. He enjoys watching films, nature and animal documentaries. He likes going to Ocean Terminal shopping centre and is on first name terms with some staff in HMV. He enjoys going for bus rides and he likes swimming and bowling. He also like cars and loves watching Top Gear.

The second man has an extensive knowledge on world politics, history, geography, human rights, law. He is fluent in several languages, so would really appreciate having a staff member who was multilingual but this is not essential for the role.

He enjoys collecting DVDs, CDs, books, train timetables, classical music, sci-fi, train timetables. He likes Greek & Nordic mythology, tennis, Xena & Amazons, reading Greek, German and Nordic plays. Restrictions permitting he loves train trips down to England, usually on his own. He also really likes watching real life Police programmes on Pick TV.

You will require good communication and social skills to work effectively with family and other members of a small team dependant on the service. We are looking for someone with a warm and friendly personality, who can work professionally and use their own initiative. A driving licence is desirable but not essential for this post.
