The role

This is an exciting time to join Action for Children, this job role is crucial in the development of the service in Orkney, in partnership with Orkney Island Council. You will be supporting Children and Young People who are impacted by substance and alcohol misuse through early intervention and flexible whole family support within the family homes, education settings and the community. Working with all partner agencies within Orkney (Orkney Health and Care, Education, Police, Health and the Third Sector) the post is integral in providing support to families at an early stage and the service identifies the young persons needs and responds effectively. A child centred approach will be at the heart of the delivery of this support.

We are looking for a Family Support Practitioner to join the service on a full-time basis. You'll be working 37 hours a week, it might be required that you can work some evening and weekend work to meet the needs of the service.

You will make a difference by:

  • Workingwithfamiliesaffected by drug and alcohol misuse.
  • Delivering complex and specialist interventionswithchildren, youngpeople and their
  • Delivering specialist interventions within the school setting.
  • Conducting outreach work with young people and their families in their homes and the community.
  • Building effective relationships and channels of communication with our partners, such as the children, young people, families, colleagues and external agencies.
  • Ensuring all records are maintained and updated in line with the data protection act.

You will need:

  • Relevant HNC or experience of working with young people and families to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all
  • Good IT skills.
  • Strong time management
  • The ability to work both on your own initiative but also as part of a wider team.
