An exciting school leadership position has arisen at St Joseph’s RC School in Aberdeen.

St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School is situated in the west end of Aberdeen serving a wide city centre catchment area and an adjoining part of Aberdeenshire to the south. St Joseph’s School is a denominational school and is part of Aberdeen Grammar School Associated Schools Group. The current school roll is 376 with 40 places in the nursery delivered over morning and afternoon sessions. The school also benefits from after school club provision. The school has strong links with its local and wider community and takes every opportunity to enhance children’s learning experiences. The life and work of the school is very well supported by an enthusiastic and active Parent Council. The Parish Priest visits classes on a weekly basis and provides a great deal of support during the Sacramental preparation of the children. The school prides itself in being welcoming to parents and carers and takes every opportunity to enhance children’s successes and achievements through a positive and encouraging ethos. The successful applicant will require to have demonstrated they meet Church and Home Church Approval and will be required to be approved as regards religious belief and character by representatives of the church or denominational body with interest in the school.

RELOCATION
An attractive relocation package is available to the successful candidate if they are required to relocate their primary residence to fulfil this role. Relocation must be within a reasonable commuting distance to the workplace. Currently, the scheme offers a max of £8,000 (inc VAT) paid on a reimbursement basis.

It is a requirement that candidates have RC Church Approval – all forms can be downloaded from the Scottish Catholic Education Service website (www.sces.org.uk).


Job Purpose:

To lead and manage the affairs of a school, enabling the delivery of a quality education through the appropriate involvement of the pupils, staff, parents, multidisciplinary agencies and the community it serves. This will be done in accordance with the Authority’s Strategic Plan, Directorate Strategic Priorities, the school’s Improvement Plan and in line with current legislation and national and local agreements.


Requirements

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

Educated to degree level.

Full GTCS Registration.

Evidence of maintaining the Standard for GTCS and maintain the standard within the professional update framework.

Evidence of continuing and professional development including career long professional learning in leadership settings.

PVG membership for Regulated work with Children and/or Vulnerable Adults or the ability to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.

The post holder will be expected to:

Be flexible to work in different locations within Aberdeen City.

Travel for reasons including training and meetings.

Adhere to the Councils Policies and Procedures and relevant legislation.

Responsibilities

The post holder is expected to demonstrate:

Extensive knowledge and experience of current curriculum developments.

Experience of a school senior management role, including staff and resources management.

Evidence of working with external agencies.

Experience of improvement planning, school self-evaluation.

Awareness of current initiatives and priorities in education.

Knowledge and understanding of the provisions of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 2003.

Have effectively managed human resourcing matters including industrial/employee relations and health and safety whilst continually improving performance of self and others in order to achieve excellence in service delivery and organisational capability.

Proven organisational skills.

Proven leadership skills.

Ability to work in partnership with pupils, parents, and the community.

Ability to develop and improve pupil's experiences.

Interpersonal skills and effective communication with colleagues, pupils, and parents/carers.

Ability to promote and deliver equality of opportunity to staff and service users.
