Job Description

This is an excellent opportunity to become part of the Environmental Health team that is committed to delivering a wide range of regulatory duties throughout the Aberdeenshire Area. Environmental Health is the branch of public health which deals with all aspects of the natural and built environment that may affect public health, together with licensing duties. Much of the work is preventative and the team has an important role in ensuring that Aberdeenshire maintains its reputation of a safe and healthy place in which to live, work and holiday.

The team undertake licensing duties which include a general enforcement role for activities licensed under the Civic Government legislation including the new licensing of short-term lets.

The successful candidate will undertake a role that supports the licensing activities with a specific focus on Short-Term Let Licensing. This will include the general functions of a Civic Licensing Standards Officer as set out in the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982. These are:

  1. To provide to any interested person information and guidance concerning Civic Government licensing
  2. To supervise the compliance by the holder of a licence granted under the Act with the conditions of the licence, and the other licensing requirements of the Act
  3. To provide mediation services for the purposes of avoiding or resolving disputes or disagreements between the holder of a licence and any other person, concerning any matter relating to compliance with the conditions of the licence or the other licensing requirements of the Act.

The successful applicant must have good communication skills, flexibility, and diplomacy skills. The ability to manage and effectively prioritise workload and to work to strict deadlines will be required to deliver regulatory duties

The base location is flexible, and job share arrangements may be available. 

It is essential that applicants hold a qualification at SCQF 8/9 i.e., HND, SVQ4 or equivalent or have relevant experience of a similar role. Knowledge of the application of legislation to ensure compliance would be beneficial.
