As a Roads and Infrastructure Manager you will be part of a team that is responsible for looking after over 5,400kms of roads in one of the most beautiful and diverse areas of Scotland. All this spread across 6,313km2, spanning from sea level to and elevation over 1,100m, including the highest road in Scotland, the A93.
You will be an integral part of the Roads and Infrastructure Service Management Team, responsible for setting the strategic direction of the service in support of the Environment & Infrastructure Directorate Plan, the wider Council priorities, and the Local Outcomes Improvement Plan. Your ability to assess and articulate the current and future needs of the Roads Team, as well as the wider needs of the Roads and Infrastructure Service will be crucial as you contribute to the shaping of our Service.
You will jointly lead a team of over 60 technical/professional colleagues and over 200 more that are front line operational. The Team works in a hybrid manner, from home and from across a number of offices and depots strategically placed across the Shire. The ability to manage diverse teams in this hybrid environment across a large geographical area will be an essential skill.
The Service is entering an exciting era of change and has embarked on an in-depth review of the delivery of our functions and that has the potential to reconfigure the responsibilities of roles within the Management Team, including this role. Shaping, driving and delivering these changes will be a key part of the role to ensure the Council continues to innovate and improve. The successful candidate will be flexible and committed to applying their skills to a variety of duties. These currently include organising and delivering road maintenance functions with in house and external resources; acting as first responder during emergency events; helping to develop and implement strategies, policies and procedures; representing the Service to the public, Elected Members and Committees.
We are good Team, with a strong history of delivering high quality services. You will be joining us at a time of significant change. Your experience will be essential in shaping the Service for the years to come, to ensure that we continue to deliver for the communities across Aberdeenshire.
This next period in the evolution of the Team will not be an easy one, as change is never straightforward.
Aberdeenshire is one of the leading Roads Authorities in Scotland and we would welcome applications from enthusiastic leaders; able to bring their exemplary management experience, enthusiasm for change, and commitment to high levels of public service to the Roads Authority environment.
