Job Description

Aberdeenshire Council is a large local authority in North East Scotland providing a vast array of essential services across a wide remit to over 230,000 people. The Council relies upon a first class legal team and we pride ourselves on our innovative and imaginative approach to the delivery of legal services across the organisation.

We are now recruiting for traineeships; one to commence in January 2020 and one in summer 2020. The roles will be primarily based in Woodhill House, Aberdeen however the ability to travel to other locations across Aberdeenshire is essential.

A traineeship within a local authority like Aberdeenshire is unique. You will be involved in work that spans a diverse and unique range of areas, that is hugely varied and professionally rewarding. You will gain experience of a wide variety of law in an exciting and ever-changing sector and your clients will include Councillors as well as other Council services.

During the two year traineeship, you’ll spend six months in each of our four main areas of practice namely Governance, Conveyancing, Commercial and Advice and Representation. Your work will be structured in accordance with a training plan that will aim to ensure you achieve the standard of a qualifying solicitor and you will receive support and mentoring from all members of the team to give you broad and valuable experience and guidance.

You will be an enthusiastic, motivated and committed individual with a flexible approach and an ability to communicate effectively. You will take pride in the work that you do and appreciate the integral role we play in delivering a first class legal service to the Council.
