Senior Solicitor required to participate as a member of the Legal Services team in the provision of efficient and effective legal services with a particular focus on conveyancing and planning.

The main responsibilities of the post will be to provide a conveyancing service in regard to all Council departments and also advice and assistance to Planning, Roads and Amenity Services on a range of matters and undertake conveyancing on behalf of the Council including the preparation of agreements under s75 of the Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997 and under s69 of the Local Government (Scotland) Act 1973.  The successful candidate will undertake their own conveyancing portfolio and act as the main adviser to Planning Services on a range of planning related matters and will also be required to act as the instructing solicitor in respect of Petitions for Judicial Reviews and defending appeals on behalf of the Council, provide legal advice at Committees where required, provide advice in the drafting of Road Traffic Regulation Orders, preparation of missives, dispositions and leases and title searches as required.

The work is interesting and varied and this is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in local authority practice.   The successful candidate should be able to manage their own case load and be able to work independently and as part of a team.

As well as their headquarters in Lochgilphead, Argyll and Bute Council have area offices in Helensburgh, Oban, Dunoon and Campbeltown and place of work can be negotiable within one of those locations.
