Woodlands School is a secondary special school situated on a shared campus in Currie. The school meets the additional support needs of the children and young people aged 11-18 years. The needs of learners are primarily associated with learning disability, autism and other complex needs. Woodlands School serves a wide area with pupils travelling from across Edinburgh as well as providing a few places for learners outwith Edinburgh.
There are 10 classes. Maximum class size is 10 , practical classes of 6. Pupil Support Assistants support a large proportion of lessons in the school. A full secondary curriculum is offered to all learners . There is one Junior and one Senior Communication class with a high staff ratio. The school curriculum fully embraces the principles and practice of Curriculum for Excellence. Learners are offered a broad general education S1-S3, covering all curricular areas. The Senior Phase encompasses a range of course and units leading to national qualifications from National 1-5 level including Moving On Transition in Action, XL Princes Trust, ADSAN and John Muir Award. This advert has been placed to support this development, in recognition of the broad range of experiences that skilled practitioners would be able to contribute to this development.
