We are seeking to appoint an experienced and motivated park activity officer to deliver the new Activity Programme for the Saughton Park Restoration Project. Saughton Park has just undergone a major £8m restoration programme and in this final year of the project, the focus will be on delivering an ambitious new Activity Programme which focuses on the park’s heritage, horticulture excellence, community involvement, health and well being and cultural events.
The role will include working closely with partners the Royal Caledonian Horticultural Society and the Friends of Saughton Park to develop and deliver a range of events and activities to benefit the local community, generate income for the park and help to build a thriving park life. You will recruit and manage volunteers, carry out monitoring and evaluation for the project, write and/or support community groups to write bid applications for community grants and similar, and help to identify opportunities for building new partnerships to benefit the park and the community.
The Saughton Park Restoration Project and this post is funded by the Heritage Fund and is final year of the five-year delivery phase of the project which has seen the transformation of the park’s buildings and landscape to a high-quality destination park for Edinburgh. You can read more about the project on www.edinburgh.gov.uk/saughtonpark.
You will also help to develop the new Park Panel, as part of Edinburgh’s Thriving Green Space project; this is one of the pilots which will see members of the community and partners working closely with parks officers to manage the park. It will look at a new way of working together with the community and will identify what support and structure needs to be in place to make this a success. You can read more about the Thriving Green Spaces Project on www.edinburgh.gov.uk/thrivinggreenspaces.
We are looking for professionals with passion, creativity and energy to deliver a new way of working within the parks, greenspaces and cemeteries department. You will have a good understanding of how public green spaces are managed and/or how to engage with the local community. You should be able to bring stakeholders to create consensus and contribute to the development of plans for the park. To deliver this successfully you must be an excellent communicator who is able to collaborate with a wide range of partners and stakeholders.
You will be based at Saughton Park and at Waverley Court although you will have the flexibility to work at home on occasions. Evening and weekend working are required for community engagement.
Interviews will be held 18 December and we are looking to appoint the successful candidates by 20 January or sooner.
Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.
