Head Teacher
South Morningside Primary School

Salary: £68,271 per year
Hours: 35 per week

We are looking for a committed and dynamic Head Teacher to lead South Morningside Primary School. With an excellent track record in school management, you will use your strong interpersonal and leadership skills to deliver high quality learning in a warm and welcoming environment.

Set in the South of Edinburgh, South Morningside Primary is non-denominational primary school with a school roll of 630 pupils.

The 21 classes are based across two sites; Primary 3 – 7 in a large Victorian building on Comiston Road and Nursery, P1 and 2 within the newly Canaan Lane Primary School building. The Head Teacher will continue to ensure children across both sites feel connected and part of the South Morningside Community.

The current school leadership team comprises of a Head Teacher, 3 Depute Head Teachers and 2 part-time Business Managers.  There are two Support for Learning teachers, one working five days and the other working three days per week. There is also a team of support staff and specialist teachers for PE, Drama and Science/Technology.

You will continue to build upon the positive relationship with the associated schools within the Learning Community. Working with Boroughmuir High School, Buckstone, Bruntsfield & Canaan Lane Primary Schools, you will benefit from the close and cohesive relationships and the excellent programme of transition events.

The school benefits from a very active and supportive Parent Council. The Parent Council are responsible for running a large variety of Clubs, both before and after school which can be found on the school website.

The After-School Care Club, which has a Board of Trustees made up of parents, provides a Breakfast Club and an After School Club both at Deanbank and the Main School. There is also a Holiday Club, which runs from the Main School.

The Standard for Headship is now an essential requirement for this post.  If the successful candidate does not meet this requirement the post may be offered on a temporary basis for a maximum period of 20 months if the panel is satisfied that, on an individual basis, there is a likelihood that the Into Headship qualification will be achieved within this timescale.  A permanent contract will be offered only when the course is successfully completed.  If it becomes clear that this essential qualification will not be achieved within 20 months then the contract will be ended with appropriate notice and the temporary Head Teacher will then revert to a DHT1 post available across the city.

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
