We are Scotland’s busiest planning authority, handling over 3,000 applications a year in an city with internationally-valued built and natural heritage.

We’re now looking for skilled and motivated planning professionals to join our team.

Our Planning service is continuing with our major change programme to help make it fit for the future and be fully able to support the significant change Edinburgh faces in the years ahead. We are developing new ways of working and want to enhance our relationship with our customers and stakeholders.

We are looking for Planning Officers who are committed to delivering an efficient, effective and customer-focused Planning service and delivering great places.  You will be responsible for handling a varied and challenging range and volume of planning and enforcement cases, for carrying out projects and contributing to change and improvement, and for supporting the professional development of yourself and your colleagues. As part of our agile, multidisciplinary workforce, you will be expected to continually gain skills enabling you to work in different teams and operational areas in the Planning service.  The advertised posts are not assigned to specific teams, and successful candidates should be prepared to be deployed to any team in the Planning service.

You would be based from home in line with the Scottish Government’s current guidelines for those who are able to work from home. We are currently working from home in line with the Scottish Government’s guidelines. We anticipate moving to hybrid working under the Council’s new Working Flexibly guidance, which will see us using our modern open-plan offices in Edinburgh city centre, 5 minutes’ walk from Waverley Rail Station.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.  For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
