Hours: 36 per week (part time will be considered)

We have ambitious plans to realise Edinburgh’s vision of a fair, welcoming, pioneering and thriving city.

Our Council priorities are to end poverty by 2030, become a net zero city, and enhance wellbeing and equalities for all. Our City Plan 2030 project sets out challenging aims on quality of place, resilience to climate change, 20-minute neighbourhoods, net zero development and more. We are Scotland’s busiest planning authority, handling over 3,000 applications a year in a city with internationally-valued built and natural heritage.

We’re now looking for skilled and motivated Landscape professionals to join our team.

You will be committed to delivering an efficient, effective, and customer-focused Planning service and delivering great places.

Based in the Specialist Team, which provides integrated multi-disciplinary advice within planning, you will be contributing to a varied and challenging range of planning cases providing specialist landscape input and advising colleagues in development management and development planning. You will also be expected to contribute to change and improvement, and supporting the professional development of yourself and your colleagues.

Our Planning service is continuing with our major change programme to help make it fit for the future and be fully able to support the significant change Edinburgh faces in the years ahead. We are developing new ways of working and want to enhance our relationship with our customers and stakeholders.

As part of our agile, multidisciplinary workforce, you will be expected to continually gain skills enabling you to work with different teams and operational areas in the Planning service.

The Council provides a wide and far reaching variety of services making us unique as an employer, and our varied rewards cater to the needs and wants of our employees. At our core are our values which describe the behaviours that all Council employees are expected to demonstrate in the workplace:

  • honest and transparent
  • forward thinking
  • work together
  • put customers first

If you are interested, you should bring a strong sense of customer service, excellent communication skills, an understanding of quality assurance and an appetite for project delivery and continuous improvement.

You would be based from home in line with the Scottish Government’s current guidelines for those who are able to work from home. We are currently working from home in line with the Scottish Government’s guidelines.  We anticipate moving to hybrid working under the Council’s new Working Flexibly guidance, which will see us using our modern open-plan offices in Edinburgh city centre, 5 minutes’ walk from Waverley Rail Station.

We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range.  For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
