Principal Teacher 
Pilrig Park School (Special Secondary)

Salary: £46,158 per year
Hours: 35 per week

Pilrig Park School is looking to appoint a highly motivated and enthusiastic Principal Teacher of Curriculum. The successful candidate will be secondary qualified and will have a passion, desire and commitment to working with young people with additional support needs. The Principal Teacher of Curriculum will have a whole-school leadership responsibility for developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating key areas of the curriculum across the school as well as being an active member of the school leadership team. There will be a need to keep up-to-date with current theories and practice relating to effective and inclusive learning and teaching, and to ensure that appropriate implementation occurs throughout the school. In addition to a teaching commitment, the successful candidate will also participate in and deliver courses and awards as part of our Wider Achievement programme.

Responsibilities include:

  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a whole-school life skills curriculum which will enhance skills for learning, skills for life and skills for work
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating a whole-school Personal, Social and Health Education programme
  • Developing, implementing, monitoring and evaluating across the school the Relationships, Sexual Health and Parenthood (RSHP) resource for learners with complex additional support needs
  • Working with the Depute Head Teacher on the coordination of the BGE Curriculum
  • Year Head for S3and S4 including relevant duties such as attendance overview and child protection co-ordinator
  • Leading all Young Person Planning Meetings for S3and S4 and contributing to others where appropriate
  • Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure best practice in the classroom
  • Contributing to whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning processes
  • Leading and/or facilitating CPD for school staff in the area of additional support for learning / curriculum

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.
