We are looking to appoint appropriately skilled individuals to the post of School Counsellors for the City of Edinburgh Council. This is part of an exciting new citywide initiative to provide counselling through all our schools. The post holders will be based within secondary schools across Edinburgh but will also have a role offering counselling to pupils in the associated primary schools.

Successful candidates will work in partnership with the secondary school and it’s associated primary schools to oversee the effective delivery of counselling services to 10 to 18 year olds within the school cluster. Each counsellor will be line managed by the school but will also link with psychological services to ensure appropriate levels of supervision are undertaken and to work within the citywide strategy for counsellors in schools.

School Counsellors will be part of the wider pupil support team and will support the child planning process within the national GIRFEC framework. They will be a key part of the whole school approach to emotional health and wellbeing and work in partnership with the wider school team. School Counsellors will work with their schools and psychological services to agree and provide appropriate levels of counselling services during school holidays.

Successful candidates will be fully qualified counsellors and registered with an appropriate organisation such as COSCA or the BACP. Appropriate candidates who are shortly due to finish their qualification will be considered for temporary contracts.

We are primarily recruiting specifically for St Augustine’s high school and it’s associated primary schools however this is also part of a city-wide recruitment process and we may be able to offer opportunities in other school clusters.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh.
