Davidson’s Mains Primary School Nursery  are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Senior Early Years Officer to join their team. This position is to cover a maternity leave. Davidson’s Mains Primary School Nursery  is situated in the North West of the city, as part of the Royal High School cluster. The large nursery offers a variety of all year 1140 full time and part time places for 2 – 5 year olds.

The successful candidate will be an excellent practitioner and ideally have management knowledge / experience. The role will involve assisting the Head of Establishment and working with the other SEYO in the management, co-ordination and development of a needs-led responsive and inclusive service for children 2-5 years old. The candidate will be required to Co-ordinate the admissions procedure by taking initial referrals from families and other professionals, making assessments of needs and admissions decisions. They will jointly manage the staff team, providing professional support, supervision and leadership to staff and manage the establishment in the absence of the Head of Establishment. They will plan and deliver the pre birth to three and pre-school curriculum directly to children and, dependant on the needs of the establishment, be counted in the staff child ratio. they will undertake GIRFEC assessments of need and ensure that services in the Child’s plan are delivered in an integrated way.

They will work in partnership with parents in a range of ways including facilitating parenting groups They will provide advice and guidance to promote confidence and independence. They will liaise with other staff and organisations to ensure that individual children are kept safe and input to the development of appropriate care packages. They will ensure that a good standard of professional practice is maintained, achieving high quality standards of care and service, within the establishment, outreach and community based Services.

The nursery team  team currently consists of a Head teacher, 2 SEYO, 3 EYO, 7 EYP, 2 EYA and 2 EYD staff.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by the City of Edinburgh Council.

Our salary range typically reflects the initial starting salary and annually increases until it reaches the top of the range. For roles in grade 5 or above, annual increments in our contribution zones are dependent on achieving agreed performance goals.
