The City of Edinburgh Council’s in-house legal team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Solicitor to join its Commercial Law team to bolster our service provision.

It is anticipated that the successful candidate will have a minimum of four years of post-qualified experience in commercial law and be able to demonstrate a sound understanding of a wide range of complex commercial law matters.

The role will be varied and challenging, often involving sensitive and high-profile matters, and you will be expected to provide complex advice to senior management, ideally bringing to bear a wide range of experience of major projects, complex commercial contracts (e.g. development agreements), public procurement, subsidy control, public law, data protection, freedom of information, governance, RIPSA, corporate law, construction law and housing law.

Applicants will be expected to draw upon professional and commercial acumen to provide tailored legal and business solutions.

The team provides critical advice to this large organisation across a wide range of matters. The Council has exciting and ambitious projects to ensure that Edinburgh is a forward-looking and sustainable capital city. You will have a key role to play in achieving the Council’s objectives.

You will report to the Principal Solicitor (Commercial).

You will be supported in a collegiate environment and encouraged to develop a full range of legal and other skills to advance your career with us.

Applicants will require a full Practising Certificate in Scotland.
