Job Description

Service Director - Education
Waverley Court

Salary: £119,776
Hours: 36 per week

Edinburgh is known as Scotland's capital city, but also its festival, business and cultural capital too. The city is home to the Scottish Parliament and some of the most recognisable landmarks in Europe, from the medieval Old Town to the elegant Georgian New Town.

And here at The City of Edinburgh Council we're at the heart of that city. With nearly four million domestic and overseas visitors and almost half a million people calling Edinburgh home, it has never been more important for us to make sure our city is a great place to live, work and enjoy.

The role of Service Director, Education is responsible to the Executive Director of Education & Children’s Services and has specific responsibility for developing the strategic direction, policy and practice for education service across the City of Edinburgh. The post is responsible for providing leadership to a large number of front line and professional services with a combined value in the region of £400 million.

You will lead the development of the service at both a citywide and locality level, provide effective leadership across the system in Edinburgh, seek out opportunities for service change and improvement, and ensure the delivery of a world-class education service. This is a great moment to join the council under a new Executive Director and team, with the potential to build links more broadly across schools, social care and justice services to improve outcomes for our most vulnerable children.

We are looking for an exceptional leader of education services with significant experience of leading change and a track record of setting vision and strategy, developing a high performance culture and successful partnership working.
