Firrhill High School serves the area of South West Edinburgh. In partnership with our five associated primary schools Bonaly, Colinton, Longstone, Oxgangs and Pentland, we strive to “Provide learning opportunities of the highest quality.” Our school values are founded on respect for self and others, tolerance and support.

We are one of the largest schools in Edinburgh with a roll of 1300 pupils and 130 staff. This provides us with the opportunity to provide a wide range of curricular, interdisciplinary and extracurricular activities that meet the needs of all of our pupils. We also provide opportunities for personal achievement and support pupils to develop skills for learning, work and life.

We are looking to recruit teachers to join our dedicated staff who will be ambitious for all our pupils and are committed to supporting our young people to develop to their fullest potential.

Firrhill has a long track-record of very high uptake and very high levels of attainment in PE. The faculty also delivers a range of other sports-related courses also with very high levels of pupil engagement and success. With our Gold School Sports Award and our extensive range of extra-curricular clubs we are seeking an enthusiastic and committed colleague to join our team and contribute to the ongoing success and future growth of the faculty.

This post is for an August start and, as such current probationers who will have achieved full GTC registration by August 2023 are invited to apply.

All staff benefit from a well-structured and responsive Professional Learning programme where staff are encouraged to both develop their own practice and to actively share their expertise with colleagues. We place a particular emphasis on developing leadership capacity at all levels. Firrhill is a Gold Rights Respecting School and we place children’s rights at the centre of our practice. This contributes significantly to our school ethos of inclusion, diversity, tolerance and friendship where excellence for all and excellence by all is our constant ambition.

The work of the school is supported by an active Parent Council and Parent Teachers Association.

Further information on the school can be found at www.firrhillhighschool.org.uk

Salaries will be in accordance with the Scheme of Salaries and Conditions of Service for Teaching Staff in School Education.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. We're committed to creating a workplace culture where all our people feel valued, included and able to be their best at work, and we recognise the benefits that a diverse workforce with different values, beliefs, experience, and backgrounds brings to us as an organisation.
