Sunnyside Primary school is located close to the centre of Alloa and has a catchment area covering the north western area of Alloa. The school has a roll of 368 with 15 classes and a 48/48 nursery. 28% of children in the school are in receipt of free school meals and as a result it benefits from significant Pupil Equity Funding.
The current headteacher and depute headteacher left at the end of last session to take up posts in other authorities, this represents a great opportunity for an incoming headteacher to appoint their own depute headteacher to take the school forward.
We are part of a thriving Learning Community and work very successfully with our partners— Park Primary, Redwell Primary, Lochies School, ABC Nursery, St Mungo’s Primary, the Student Support Service and Alloa Academy. Our Learning Community and school are part of the Scottish Attainment Challenge and we have used our funding to support a range of Health and Wellbeing interventions and approaches. We have also made successful use of Innovation funding for a range of projects whose impact we are currently in the process of measuring and assessing.
We have a dynamic and enthusiastic staff, who strive to provide excellent learning and teaching which engages all of our young people and who are willing to experiment and learn from research and one another about how to extend excellent practice. We understand that there is no single strand which will lead to the achievement of all of the positives which we wish to see in the lives of our children and we constantly strive to bring together all of the strategies and approaches which, when taken together, will make the difference.
As a school we work very closely with our very supportive and active Parent Forum. There are a number of opportunities for parents to assist and become involved in the learning and education of their children. Partnership between the home and the school is regarded as an important part of the education of our children.
Alloa benefits from good transport links by road and rail and is only 10 minutes from the Clackmannanshire bridge and also the M9 at Stirling.
The school has benefited from a number of refurbishments over the years which has seen the original Victorian school building transformed into a modern learning environment.
