Job Description

To manage school premises, check windows, doors, perimeter fences to ensure the condition and security including opening and securing buildings on a daily basis. Carry out regular inspections of premises to ensure proper use by building users. Logging of incidents for future action and to be reported to Supervisor/repairs as current procedure in place. Operating schools security systems in accordance with agreed procedures. Assist building management. Keep indoor and outdoor areas free from litter/debris.

To monitor and maintain a log of all external contractors/Kelliebank report any concern including the quality of work undertaken.

To contribute to achieving the safety, welfare and good conduct of pupils including participating in any fire and emergency drills in accordance with the Duty Holder and within set procedures and guidelines. Clear snow from pathways to building entrances as agreed locally.  Use Clinical Waste kits/procedures provided when required.

To maintain personal standards, ID badge and uniform supplied by the service must be worn at all times, PPE guidelines must be followed when required. PVG check will be required to be carried out for this post.

To provide access and assist client supervision for Community use of school premises

Janitors will be flexible and co-operative in carrying out tasks which relate to their areas of responsibility and which are within their capability.

Janitors will use their initiative to attend to work requiring attention at all times, When Janitors face competing pressures for their time, they should discuss the situation with their Line Manager and seek guidance on setting priorities.

Janitors must try to accommodate the School needs within their working practices although their Janitorial role must be their priority. All deviations from the janitorial role must be notified to the line manager before the event.

Head Teacher will ensure that all teachers are aware of a Janitor’s role.
