Job Description

This is a strategic leadership role in CnES ensuring that the highest standards of education and best possible outcomes for all children and young people are delivered across all our schools. The Executive Headteacher will ensure that all local and national policies and associated statutory requirements, are delivered consistently across schools through the effective line management of local Headteachers and excellent relationships with key stakeholders. As a member of the Directorate team, reporting to the Chief Education Officer, the Executive Headteacher will be the most senior local representative in their geographical part of the Western Isles and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of effective and efficient education with a key focus on the curriculum, attainment and achievement, and resource deployment. The post holder will also take responsibility for leading some aspects of Council wide strategic development in conjunction with the Education Leadership Team.


The post holder must have thorough knowledge, understanding and commitment to Scottish educational legislation and associated operational practice. Along with an understanding of the range of key operational requirements of Headteachers in order to both advise and ensure that schools are being led effectively.

The post holder must have a vision of education that places the needs of learners at the centre, sees schools and groups of working with their communities, and places the highest possible standards and outcomes for all children and young people as non negotiable.

The above teaching post is full time, permanent and the salary will be in accordance with current regulations plus £2,265 distant islands allowance.
