Gretna Primary School is a non-denominational school in Annandale and Eskdale, situated on the Scotland-England border. The school serves the growing town of Gretna and the village of Rigg and its surrounding area. The current school roll is 350 mainstream with an additional 58 pupils in our Nursery class.

This position is temporary until August 2023 in the first instance.  This position may be suitable for secondment and line management approval should be sought before applying for the position.

We are looking to appoint a passionate and committed Depute Headteacher to help lead our caring, well-established team and to ensure that we make a real difference to children’s lives.

The successful candidate will exhibit experience of leading and managing aspects of school improvement and will have demonstrable knowledge of a breadth of teaching skills and practice across stages. As part of the school management team they will assist in steering the strategic direction and lead curricular development. They display a commitment to working in partnership with staff, parents and the wider community to provide quality learning experiences, helping to equip pupils with the skills to become successful, confident and responsible contributors to the world they live in.

This post represents an excellent opportunity to be innovative in leading and developing high quality learning and teaching, sustaining improvement, and raising achievement and attainment with the best outcomes for all our pupils.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

 

Requirements

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council. 

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Please note – Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT – appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence their employment or change their payscale with Dumfries and Galloway Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay and leave. In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and pay and leave will be adjusted.  This may have a temporary detriment to your salary however this will balance out over the course of the session.
