Our Employability & Skills service operates on a region-wide basis delivering on our Council’s priorities and to support achievement of the ambitions of: Dumfries and Galloway’s Local Outcomes Improvement Plan 2017-2027, D&G Local Employability and Skills Partnership Delivery Plan 2022-26, No One Left Behind and Best Start, Bright Future.

 

The Economic Development Officer for Child Poverty, is a key role in leading an effective employability and skills focused response to child poverty in the region.  The successful candidate will work as part of a team to develop, test and roll out employability and skills support aimed at improving household income through work and upskilling.  This is an exciting opportunity for the right candidate as they lead our innovative response to child poverty through a place and people focused approach.

 

The post has a lead managerial position within the service and the successful candidate will have experience of managing staff, budgetary management, and experience of implementing evaluation and monitoring systems to support quality driven activity.

 

Ideally, applicants will be able to demonstrate successful delivery of employability and skills services.  They will understand the development and delivery of employability and child poverty policy and programmes, and the wider economic priorities for Dumfries and Galloway. The successful candidate should specifically be able to demonstrate an understanding and interest in delivering on Scottish Government employability related policy and tackling poverty and inequality. Candidates should also be able to demonstrate their understanding of the Scottish Approach to Service Design.

 

They will be able to demonstrate experience of effective partnership relationships and multi-agency working which can evidence impact and it is essential that they are able to demonstrate an awareness of local, regional, and national employability strategies, activities and agencies.

 

The post-holder will be central to the delivery of externally funded contracts, including Scottish Government funding.

 

A current driving licence is an essential requirement of this post. However, if you have a disability which precludes you from holding a driving licence consideration will be given if alternative transport can be arranged.

 

This post is fixed term for up to 18 months.
