An exciting position has become available for an experienced, dedicated, enthusiastic and highly motivated Nursery Manager at Kelloholm Primary School. Hours of work will be 36 hours per week, 39 weeks per year. With the introduction of 1140hours of Early Learning & Childcare, the opportunity may exist for this post to increase to 52 weeks per year.

You will be responsible for the managing the day-to-day operation of the nursery, ensuring that all children are provided with high quality early learning and childcare.

You are required to hold a BA in Childhood Practice *, or other relevant childcare qualification equivalent to SCQF level 9. This qualification must enable you to register with Scottish Social Service Council (SSSC) as a Manager of a Day-Care of Children’s Service (without conditions). A list of qualifications can be found on the SSSC Website. (Candidates may be considered if they achieved one of the degrees listed on the SSSC website after December 2010, for Example, BA Childhood Studies but now require too upgrade this degree to Childhood Practice Level 9. Candidates will be required to undertake any additional modules to bring their degree to Childhood Practice level 9. The salary will be dependent on the level of qualifications.)

* Whilst this post requires the above qualification, consideration will be given to candidates who do not fulfil the Essential Criteria on the Person Specification but commit to completing their BA Childhood Practice or equivalent within an agreed time frame.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

This is a temporary post for a period of up to 23 months. This post may be suitable for attachment. Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.
