We are seeking to appoint a 1.0fte permanent Principal Teacher.  The successful candidate will be part of the management team of St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School and nearby Belmont Primary School as part of a shared management structure that offers a step into management within a supportive and innovative ethos where the child most certainly is at the centre of our endeavours.

St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Primary School is set in Stranraer. There is a strong sense of community within the schools and staff work in a very supportive and collaborative way across both schools. 

The successful candidate can expect excellent opportunities for further professional development and the support of colleagues. We benefit from valuable links with our local community and church parish.
We are looking for a creative and innovative teacher to take forward the exciting developments around raising attainment, outdoor play / digital learning and become a leader of learning and teaching.

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland (GTCS), Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.  

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Please note – Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session.

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT – appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with Dumfries and Galloway Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay and leave.  In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and pay and leave will be adjusted.

In line with Section 21 (2A) of the Education Scotland Act 1980, the successful candidate for this post will require to have the approval of the Roman Catholic Church.
