This is an opportunity to work in the busy but rewarding role of School Support Manager (SSM) at Lockerbie Academy/Primary. You will be expected to work 14 hours per week (Monday & Tuesday), 39 weeks per year.


Lockerbie Academy caters for over 1160 pupils from nursery through to secondary sectors. The school benefits from being in a new school building (PPP).


The role of School Support Manager is key member of the schools’ management team, but crucially, the only member from non-teaching staff.  The role of the SSM is to ensure effective and efficient business support functions across the school and to directly manage school clerical, administration and technical staff.  The SSM will assume responsibility for the integrity of data on the schools’ Management Information System, ensure HR policy and procedures are followed and complete all necessary paperwork.  A key aspect of the role is to assume strategic management of finance including Devolved School Management, Pupil Equity Fund and Staffing budgets and ensure operational arrangements are effective reporting to the Headteacher as appropriate.  The SSM will assume responsibility for Health & Safety arrangements in school.  The postholder is a key contact for all Council departments and all staff in school, both teaching and non-teaching.


The successful applicant will be a problem solver with the ability to multitask and prioritise continually.  They will remain calm under pressure and build good relationships supporting others as required whilst ensuring procedures are adhered to, both in staff directly managed and in other staff groups in school.  The ability to produce work of a high quality particularly in relation to financial record keeping and controls, along with extended administrative experience is essential as is management/supervisory experience.


Current qualification in/knowledge of Health & Safety legislation is desirable, and IOSH Managing Safely qualification will be provided.


This post is fixed term for up to 1 year.


This post may be suitable for secondment.  Agreement from your Line Manager must be sought before applying for this post.

From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council
