Social Worker – Out of Hours (Fixed Term)


£34,914  - £37,560


This post is offered on a fixed term, 18 month basis – 36 hours per week, with an agreed rota.

This is an exciting opportunity, for a qualified Social Worker, to join the Out of Hours Service.


The Out of Hours Service operates during evenings, weekends and Public Holiday periods.


Your core task will be to provide a Social Work Service, as directed by the Senior Social Worker on duty.  You will respond to referrals received, and will undertake assessments of risk and need, in order to determine and implement appropriate supports and plans for vulnerable children, young people, adults and their wider families / networks (ensuring that they are safe, and protected from harm).


You will be part of a small, inclusive and supportive team of staff – who are eager to develop and improve the quality of service provided out of hours.

As well has having excellent communication skills, you will be a self-motivated individual who can work creatively with resources available, both independently and as part of a team.  You will have the necessary skills to develop and sustain positive working relationships with colleagues and partner agencies.


It is important that you are someone who can take ownership for your own learning and development, identifying any unmet training needs.


This post is considered as regulated work with Vulnerable Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.   From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates are required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.


Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to the above, will be required to provide a completed Police record check from the Police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.
