We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Teacher to work within Gretna Primary School.  This post is 28 hours a week temporary to cover maternity Leave from 20.03.2023 until August 2023. 

This post may be suitable for secondment.  Agreement from your line manager must be sought before applying for this post.

We are very proud of our relationship with the local community and ensure our children are actively involved in planning their own learning experiences, using the local area and resources as much as possible.

The school is well located with easy access to main roads and public transport links and contains excellent facilities and staff members are friendly and welcoming. We have an experienced senior management team in place that is extremely supportive of all staff.  

The school requires a passionate teacher with high expectations.  Excellent communication, organisational and interpersonal skills and the potential to lead, motivate and inspire others. The ability to work effectively with the Head teacher and the staff team to achieve excellence.

You will provide effective learning and teaching and carry out related activities and developments following local, national and school policies under the direction of the Head Teacher. 

Applicants for teaching posts must be registered with the General Teaching Council for Scotland, Clerwood House, 96 Clermiston Road, Edinburgh, EH12 6UT in the appropriate sector.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with Vulnerable Children, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  From 28 February 2011, preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG scheme update check prior to formal offer of employment being made by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Applicants who have been resident outside the UK within the last 5 years, if offered a position, in addition to a Disclosure Scotland Check, will be required to provide a completed police record check from the police authority in the country or countries in which they were resident.

Please note – Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session.

In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT – appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with Dumfries and Galloway Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue pay and leave.  In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and pay and leave will be adjusted.
