Job Description

Based at various locations, you will work approximately 10-15 hours per week as required during term time. You will work alongside children and young people in schools as well as in the home/community. We are looking for bilingual assistants in
Ukrainian and Russian. Please indicate on the application form which post(s) you are applying for.

When work is available you will be contacted. There is no obligation on the Children and Families Service to offer you work, nor are you obliged to accept work.

Requirements

You will have educational achievement showing competence in English as well as having certification and high standard of achievement in relevant community language.

Responsibilities

To work as part of a team in providing appropriate and flexible support to children and young people who are bilingual. To support social work colleagues on home visits to Ukrainian and Russian speaking families, translating reports where necessary.

The Individual

You will have worked or have equivalent experience involving significant contact and communication with young people involving the translation of English.

You will be able to interpret and translate accurately from community language on educational and related matters, assess fluency in English and relevant community language and develop and produce resources in home language.

You will be able to communicate well with parents, pupils and the wider community, work in a team, and deal sensitively with the needs of bilingual pupils.

You will be willing to work in a number of educational establishments and homes and to undertake appropriate training.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
