Job Description

Based in Camperdown Primary School, you will work full time, 37 hours per week, full year. This post is temporary until April 2018. Secondments will be considered. Line Manager approval should be sought prior to applying for secondment.

Requirements

You will be educated to Degree level or equivalent in Social Work, Community Learning and Development or in the field of Health.

Responsibilities

You will help establish the single shared assessment framework in education for those families identified at being at risk. Under direction of the Head Teacher, work with families/carers of primary and nursery school pupils and individual pupils, acting as a link as required, between home and school. Promote the outcomes identified by Being a Parent in Dundee Strategy and specifically address the outcomes within the strategy for children aged 0-11 in a school cluster. Use evidence based practice and develop innovative initiatives in partnership with local communities. Work with schools and families to achieve positive outcomes. You will work with schools and partner agencies in order to devise activities which will; increase attendance, reduce exclusion and increase educational attainment. Outcomes from individual work would be reviewed alongside collated local data and strategic developments identified by the School Referral Teams and the Local Learning Partnership.

The Individual

You will have relevant experience in a community based/voluntary role with children and families, experience of the Community Development approach, an awareness/experience of child development, and knowledge of current legislation and guidance in education. You will have communication skills, be able to work without constant supervision to deadlines and with members of the public. Good assessment and reporting skills, the ability to understand and interpret the behaviours of young people, parents/carers and knowledge and understanding of current issues in child development and parenting are also essential. You will be able to work flexible hours and willing to identify and undertake CPD. This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme and undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
