Job Description

This 2 year Modern Apprenticeship is based within the Learning Disability teams, working part time, 35 hours per week.

The Modern Apprentice Scheme is focused to target high youth unemployment in the Dundee Area. Funding for training is only available for candidates aged 16 to 19 or disabled/care experienced applicants under the age of 30. Please ensure, if you are applying for a Modern Apprentice post, that you meet one of these criteria.

As part of the recruitment process, you will be required to complete an online behavioural questionnaire. This questionnaire measures how you would think or behave in the job role and your profile results will be matched against pre-determined criteria established for the job role. You will have one National 5 in English at grade A/B and three National 4 qualifications, or NC in Care or equivalent.


You will undertake duties concerned within the operation of the Learning Disability provision whilst adhering to the Scottish Social Services Council, Codes of Practice and The Care Inspectorate, Health and Social Care Standards.

The Individual

You will be able to use your own initiative and work in a team, have good verbal and written communication skills, planning and organisational skills, be IT literate with knowledge and understanding of confidentiality.

You will also be able to work various shift patterns, including evenings and weekends, and be committed and enthusiastic towards completing full Modern Apprenticeship and to achieving SVQ3 in Social Care and Health at SCQF level 7.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.

You will be required to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified timescale.
