Job Description

Based in one of our children's residential homes, you will work full time, 37 hours per week, please note that one of the posts is specific to Children with Disabilities house.

Requirements

You will have a Social Work Degree, Dip SW, CQSW, CSS, SVQ 4 in Social Care Children and Young People, or any other relevant qualification which provides evidence of academic achievement to or above SCQF Level 9

Responsibilities

To assist the Team Manager in the day to day running of the house by reviewing practice and maintaining a professional regime.

Direct responsibility for the care and development of residents, and providing strategies aimed at supporting Care Experienced Young People for long term care arrangement, or rehabilitation home to their family and or re-integrating young people into their local communities.

The Individual

We require people who are motivated and who want to make a difference to the lives of young people accommodated by Dundee City Council. You will be part of the management team within the young person’s houses and will supervise and support care staff.

You require an understanding of young people’s needs, the issues affecting them as individuals and the issues affecting them in a group living setting. On a daily basis you need to facilitate their care plans and offer them the necessary support and encouragement to help them reach their potential. You will have direct work with young people and families and experience of work in a residential setting. You will have good communication skills, both written & verbal You will have the ability to work sensitively with issues of gender and sexuality and be able to manage conflict and confrontation and be able to plan & prioritise.

You will have experience of working with different agencies. You will have the ability to undertake and maintain CALM accreditation and to work shifts.

You will have the ability to register with the Scottish Social Services Council within a specified timescale.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme, or undergo a PVG Scheme update check, prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Dundee City Council.
