Job Description

Leisure & Culture Dundee is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) SC042421. It was established by Dundee City Council in July 2011 to deliver leisure, sports, library, information and cultural services for the city.

Based at Ancrum Outdoor Centre you will lead and instruct high quality outdoor learning courses and programmes, working 37 hours per week on a fixed term basis for 12months.

Requirements

You will hold a relevant further education qualification and have experience of coaching young people in a number of adventure activities. You must hold at least 5 of the following National Govern Body Awards: WGL/ LLA/ ML (Summer), SPA or Climbing Wall Award, Level 2 coach in paddlesports, Mountain Bike Leader/ Trail Cycle Leader, Archery, Snowsport Coach, RYA sailing instructor awards.

Responsibilities

As a member of a specialist team of outdoor learning workers you will assist in the implementation of an outdoor learning instruction plan. The purpose of your job is to assist participants to acquire the knowledge, skills and self-confidence to participate in groups outdoor activities. You shall be primarily delivering targeted and progressive outdoor learning programmes to school children aged 8 and above during the Dundee Schools Academic year where you are expected to contribute positively to their personal and social development to assist them achieve more positive outcomes. You will also support the Centre delivering a wide range of courses and sessions offered out to or booked by general public.

The Individual

You will have experience as and be an active practitioner in 3 or more mainstream outdoor adventure activities and be able to communicate effectively with young people of all abilities and backgrounds. You will lead and assist course participants in a range of outdoor adventure activities. You will have experience of delivering outdoor learning to a range of clients and have an understanding of the contribution that outdoor and environmental education plays in lifelong learning and the development of young people. You will be a friendly, outgoing person with a strong commitment to providing safe fun adventure experiences to groups.

You should also hold a current first aid certificate and driving licence.

This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidates will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check prior to a formal offer of employment being made by Leisure & Culture Dundee.
