Job Description

We are looking for dynamic and fresh individuals who may well have associated life experience to bring to these posts. Our participation leader roles have a key function in helping us #keepthepromise in East Ayrshire as we strive to make change in how our children and young people experience care.

The participation leader posts will have three main functions

  • to support our children and young people to have a stronger, more powerful voice to influence decisions that affect their lives
  • to be the voice of children and young people to influence how support and services are delivered locally and nationally and
  • to empower other young people to have a stronger voice in being able to make system change through their involvement and contribution

You will work as part of a team to influence transformational change across East Ayrshire as we strive to improve the lives of our care experienced children, young people and young adults. You will be a member of the East Ayrshire Health and Social Care Partnership but the role will involve extensive partnership working.

You will be committed to improving the impact and outcomes for our care experienced community as we strive to make system change that removes barriers and stigma. You will also work closely with The Promise Scotland Team, the Design Academy as well as other local and national partners to drive forward our ambitions in relation The Promise.

Requirements

The duties of the post involve Regulated Work with children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.  Successful applicants for such posts will be required to become a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme member in respect of Regulated Work with either or both of these groups as appropriate, or if they are already a Scheme member, be subject to a PVG Scheme Record Update, before any formal offer of employment can be made by East Ayrshire Council.

Please note:- PVG members' records are constantly updated with any new vetting information that arises.  Any information that is disclosed on a PVG Scheme Record or Scheme Record Update, if relevant to the post being applied for, will be discussed with the applicant prior to any formal offer of employment being made.

We follow the national guidance in relation to pre-employment checks namely “Safer Recruitment Through Better Recruitment”.  With regards to requests for references and in line with this guidance, during your application process you should provide details of a minimum of two appropriate and relevant references, one of which should be from your current or most recent employer.  It is also a requirement that the reference from your current or most recent employer is from an appropriate senior manager and it is not a reference from a former peer operating at the same level.

Additional Information

These are full time temporary posts based within the Family Support and Young People team at the Johnnie Walker Bond, Kilmarnock. 

Hours of work will be 35hr per week to be Monday to Friday with occasional weekend work.

Annual Salary - £19,929 - £21,148

Posts will be temporary until 30 June 2022.
