Knox Academy is a state school situated in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. At census 2016 the roll was 762. The ethos of the school revolves around the three core values of wisdom, engagement and respect. We pride ourselves on being a friendly and welcoming school. The school is accessible to all.
The curriculum provides a full range of subjects from S1-S6. We aim to meet the needs of all the pupils, providing a curriculum that is appropriate in terms of breadth, depth and challenge. We endeavor to treat all pupils as individuals and hope that they, their parents and the community will work in partnership to provide them with the support and opportunities that will enable them to make their next educational steps. Pupils are encouraged to access the extensive and varied menu of extra-curricular activities on offer.
There is a proud tradition of excellent education in Haddington and the pupils, staff and parents of the school work hard to continue this.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and with the ability to communicate their enthusiasm to engage pupils that have additional support needs, either in the classroom setting or offering continuity for pupils with particular challenges that may involve working 1:1 or with small extracted groups intensely. Proven experience of working with vulnerable young people is essential, as is the ability to be flexible to deliver alternative curriculum opportunities for pupils, both in and off the school campus. A candidate with proven experience or recognised training supporting pupil(s) with severe and/or complex needs would be a distinct advantage. A commitment to ongoing relevant professional development is desirable and would be supported by the school. The post holder will need to be flexible regarding planned breaks to accommodate the needs of pupils.
