Dunbar Primary School is a very large school split over two campuses; the roll continues to rise as additional housing is built in Dunbar. We currently have over 1,200 pupils from Nursery – Primary 7.
Our John Muir Campus currently has sixteen P1 – P3 classes and five rooms in our nursery. We also have an Authority Communication Base (The Cove) within John Muir Campus for primary pupils. All pupils in The Cove are allocated a mainstream class and where possible, depending on the severity and need, we aim to integrate them into class as much as possible.
The Lochend Campus has twenty P4 – P7 classes.
The Head Teacher has no class commitment; there are six Depute Head Teachers, three based at the John Muir campus, with one who has responsibility for The Cove, and three at the Lochend campus. The school is also supported by two full-time Principal Teachers - Inclusion and Support, a Principal Teacher with full-time class commitment, a Family Support Worker, a Business Support Officer and an Early Years Centre Manager who has responsibility for the nursery.

The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), ; recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.
In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
