This is a unique and exciting opportunity to join the Senior Leadership Team of Knox Academy with a remit of responsibility for Meadowpark Communication Provision. Meadowpark was estabished in 2015 and currently accomodates 26 young people of secondary age with autism, learning disability, communication disorders and high levels of anxiety.
The building was renovated to high standards and allows for light, space and flexibility of rooms which include: Soft Play, Sensory, Common Room, Life Skills Flat and Art and Music Therapy rooms. Meadowpark is set within generous grounds offering 4 large outside areas, access to nearby Neilson Park, Aubigny Sports Centre, cycle trails and the River Tyne for kayaking.
Pupils in Meadowpark are encouraged to attend mainstream classes in nearby Knox Academy according to their needs and interests and collaboration between staff from the two campuses has resulted in a number of young people achieving national quaifications this session. All pupils have an individualised programme of learning based on East Lothian's Curriculum Frameworks and CfE. The focus for IEPs is on Health and Wellbeing, with outdoor learning and activities being at the heart of the school day.
All pupils have a Positive Support Plan which is created in collaboration with pupils, parents, staff and where necessary external agencies such as Educational Pyschologist, Speech and Language Therapy, CAMHS and QIO Inclusion. Furthermore excellent links have been established in the local and wider community where opportunities for work experience and life skills can take place.
Meadowpark has undergone a number of improvements through fund raising, community and parental involvement, is nearing capacity and is ideally placed for an experienced ASN practitioner to take staff and pupils on to the next phase of an exciting and rewarding journey.
Depute Head Teacher
The role of a Depute Head Teacher is to assist and, where necessary, to deputise for the Head Teacher as required. The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of the school to the benefit of the pupils and the community it serves, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Head of Education.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.
In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
