Humbie Primary School
Humbie Primary School currently has a roll of 17 pupils.  Most children in primary attend as a result of placing requests. There is one composite class (P2-P7).  The Nursery Class is presently mothballed for the full school session 2020/21. A further review will of this status will take place in early 2021. It will remain the case that applications for a place in the nursery class can continue to be submitted and this matter will be monitored over the course of the next year. The school stands in the beautiful East Lothian countryside. The playground is spacious, with children often utilising the wider community for outdoor learning, physical education and daily mile. The school benefits from an active Parent Council who are very supportive of the school and work collaboratively to ensure it is an integral part of the community.  The school feeds into Ross High School, Tranent.

Saltoun Primary School
Saltoun Primary School currently has a roll of 26 pupils.  There are two composite class (P1-P3 and P4-7) and a nursery class of 6 children.  The school stands in the beautiful East Lothian countryside. The playground is spacious and purposeful.  Lots of energy has been channelled into developing the outdoor play space, with a particular focus on loose parts play.  The school uses the local playing field for physical education. The school benefits from an active Parent Council who are very supportive of the school and work collaboratively to ensure it is an integral part of the community.  The school feeds into Ross High School, Tranent.

The two schools work together on planned activity days to promote problem-solving and leadership skills.  The staff in Humbie and Saltoun work as a single team, sharing in-service and CAT sessions. They collaborate in producing a shared School Improvement Plan and share resources and expertise.

Please Note:
Successful candidates will be recruited to a permanent post if they already have a substantive HT post and/or hold the Standard for Headship (through the SQH or Into Headship programmes). Successful candidates yet to achieve the Standard for Headship will be offered a temporary contract until such time as they successfully complete the now mandatory Into Headship programme, which must be within the nationally agreed timeframe of 30 months from appointment.

The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of both Schools to the benefit of the pupils and the communities they serve, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Depute Chief Executive, Resources and People Services.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year),  recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.   

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted.  Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
