Musselburgh Burgh Primary School was built in 1964 as a merger between the original Burgh School and Fisherrow School. The ground floor of the building houses two classrooms, Nurture Room, large Assembly Hall with Stage, Dining Hall, Gym Hall, Nursery, Meeting Room and several offices. Ten further classrooms, a Library and Support for Learning room are located in the two storey block. The TU in the playground serves as a general purpose area with many functions including a cooking base, therapy room, music room for instrumental specialists and planned development as a family and community room. The Burgh is situated in Musselburgh town centre and has a very mixed catchment area, from the large, privately owned properties in Inveresk Village to a high number of council flats. Currently around 65% of our pupils live in properties located in SIMD deciles 4 and below, and the school benefits from the allocation of significant Pupil Equity Funding. This funding has been utilised to develop a Nurture approach across the school, including a Nurture base staffed by a Nursery Nurse. We have also targeted support towards closing the poverty related attainment gap through the employment of additional ASN Auxiliary staff. The school roll continues to increase and there are currently 316 pupils from P1 to P7 in addition to the Nursery, which has already moved to the 1140 hours model of provision. Musselburgh Burgh Primary School sits within the catchment area for Musselburgh Grammar School.

Successful candidates will be recruited to a permanent post if they already have a substantive HT post and/or hold the Standard for Headship (through the SQH or Into Headship programmes). Successful candidates yet to achieve the Standard for Headship will be offered a temporary contract until such time as they successfully complete the now mandatory Into Headship programme, which must be within the nationally agreed timeframe of 30 months from appointment.
The role of the Head Teacher is, within the resources available, to conduct the affairs of both Schools to the benefit of the pupils and the communities they serve, through pursuing objectives and implementing policies set by East Lothian Council under the overall direction of the Depute Chief Executive, Resources and People Services.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.
In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
