Vacancy Information

It is East Lothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be placed on the first point of the salary scale.   The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week).  Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.

Posts available as follows:

Post 1:
Community Children's Occupational Therapist - Temporary for 12 months 
17.5 hours per week: Wed - Fri
Based in East Lothian Community Hospital, Haddington

Post 2:
Community Occupational Therapist - Permanent 
17.5 hours per week: Wed - Fri
Based in Belhaven Hospital, Dunbar

Post 3:
Community Occupational Therapist - Temporary
17.5 hours per week for 12 months (days to be agreed)
35 hours per week for 6 months (Mon-Fri)
Based in Musselburgh Primary Care Trust

Community Occupational Therapists required to join our forward thinking, dynamic and integrated team.

Our service is committed to developing effective and efficient ways of enabling those affected by disability to achieve their outcomes which may be in the form of rehabilitation or use of equipment and adaptations. The service has recently started using the Request for Assistance Model as a way of having early referral discussions to ensure we manage expectations do not raise and allows us to give people the opportunity to explore self management tools whilst waiting for an assessment. The Request for Assistance  Model has also helped us to reduce waiting times for people and therefore enables them to be seen in a timeous manner, particularly if in a crisis situation.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated people who are skilled in assessment, rehabilitation, adaptations and moving and handling. You will have sound knowledge of a range of medical conditions and how they affect a person's ability to function in their home environment.  You must be registered with the Health Care Professions Council.

To provide a responsive and needs led Occupational Therapy service, ensuring appropriate services are provided to meet clients' needs in accordance with the Council’s statutory obligations and department policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Educated to Dip/BSc/MSc in Occupational Therapy.
Registration as an Occupational Therapist with the Health Professions Council. 

Driving Licence 
As the duties of this role require you to effectively travel to successfully undertake the full remit of the role, you must hold a current driving licence and have access to a vehicle.*
(*Where a disability precludes you from obtaining a driving licence, ELC will take into account its responsibility to make reasonable adjustments to allow for your disability.)

PVG Membership
This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.

All preferred candidates for posts carrying out regulated work with these groups will be required to become a PVG Scheme member, or undergo a PVG Scheme update if they are already a member, prior to any formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
