Preston Lodge High School is a non-denominational secondary school serving the communities of Cockenzie, Port Seton, Longniddry and Prestonpans.  Our roll is currently 982, and the school is easily commutable from Edinburgh.  The strengths of our school are:

Our motivated staff, students, parents, carers and the community we serve work hard to further improve all aspects of our school.

Our work is now focused on continuously improving our approach to classroom practice, in order to develop student and staff learning, improve attainment and close the equity gap.  Our staff and students work together to develop an understanding of not just what key skills should be learned by students, but how they should be learned and why they are important.

Our Principal Teacher of Classroom Practice has the same job description of all Principal Teachers in East Lothian.  However, their role has been further developed in our school to enhance the learning experience of young people by: 
- Focusing on the development of a Learning Cycle approach to classroom practice.
- Coordinating our school’s approach to remote learning if required  
- Sharing and developing classroom practice across the school - providing opportunities for exchanges of ideas      and increased transparency in classroom practice across the school.  
- Liaising with the Extended Leadership Team and Strategic Learning Group to support the development of classroom practice.  
- Supporting Curricular Areas in their improvement of classroom practice.  
- Leading and managing in-house CPD programmes that develop classroom practice
- Leading self-evaluation activities around classroom practice and learning approaches 
- Liaising with partners outside school to develop school understandings of learning.  
- Leading and managing school projects eg East Lothian Tutoring Initiative 
Our new curriculum fully meets the expectations of Curriculum for Excellence, and we are increasingly exploring alternative awards for young people through active engagement with the SCQF team.  For example, we are one a big user of the Open Universities Young Applicants in Scottish Schools scheme and have an increasing number of students participating in Youth Achievement Awards.

Job Details

Subject to the policies of the school and East Lothian Council, the duties of a Principal Teacher, as a member of the school’s management team, is to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher/Depute Head Teacher will direct having reasonable regard to the overall workload of a classroom teacher.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year),  recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.   

In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted.  Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
