Knox Academy is a truly comprehensive school situated in Haddington, East Lothian, Scotland. At census 2021 the roll was 797. Our curriculum provides a full range of subjects from S1-S6. We aim to meet the needs of all our pupils, providing a curriculum that is appropriate in terms of breadth, depth and challenge. Our broad general education (BGE) incorporates pace, challenge and personalisation and choice, and this allows pupils to be ready to meet the demands of our senior phase curriculum, which has subjects ranging from National 2 level through to Advanced Higher. We also link with other East Lothian schools to provide opportunities for study across a wide range of other subjects and specialist academies.
The PT Learning Support post is a whole school remit, reporting to the Depute responsible for pupil support. The post holder will be a key member of the Pupil Support Group (PSG) and be directly involved in strategic planning and leadership of learning support across the school. The learning support department currently has one other part-time teacher line managed by this post holder and several ASN auxiliaries which are operationally deployed by the post holder but managed by the Business Manager.
A background in Learning Support is essential, alongside an understanding of SQA procedures and demonstrable success in successful transition planning for young people.
There is a proud tradition of excellent education in Haddington and the pupils, staff and parents of the school work hard to ensure that this tradition continues.
The successful candidate will be enthusiastic, energetic and with the ability to communicate their enthusiasm to the pupils and other staff. They should be prepared to demonstrate a commitment to self-evaluation and lifelong professional learning

Subject to the policies of the school and East Lothian Council, the duties of a Principal Teacher, as a member of the school’s management team, is to perform such tasks as the Head Teacher/Depute Head Teacher will direct having reasonable regard to the overall workload of a classroom teacher.

Please Note - Pay arrangements for those starting after 1st day of school session
In accordance with Teachers Conditions of Service (SNCT - Appendix 2.19), Teachers who commence employment with East Lothian Council after the first day of the school session will have their salary for the remainder of the school salary year (which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year), recalculated to reflect how teachers accrue leave and pay.
In these circumstances, a calculation will be carried out upon commencement of employment and leave and pay will be adjusted. Further information will be provided to the successful candidate should this be applicable.
