It is East Lothian Council's policy that successful applicants will be placed on the first point of the salary scale.   The salary advertised is full time (35 hours per week).  Part-time hours will be pro-rated accordingly.

Hourly rate of pay:  £12.33 - £13.48
Temporary part time post until 31st January 2023
Days and Hours of Work:
Monday to Thursday 08:30 - 15:25 
Friday 08:30 - 12:15 
This is a 39 week sessional post i.e. working hours will be during school term time plus in-service days.

Meadowpark Communication Provision (Haddington) would like to recruit a driven and flexible person to be our School and Family Support Worker.

This is a new and exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and committed person to be part of a team at Meadowpark Communication Provision in East Lothian that caters for secondary aged pupils with autism and communication difficulties.  Meadowpark pupils require a highly individualised and adapted approach to teaching and learning.  The school role is limited to 42, and formed from 6 classes of 7 pupils.

The provision offers pupils and staff extensive facilities including a sensory room, fully accessible meeting area, staff base, therapy rooms as well as generous outdoor space and ICT support. There is also a fully fitted apartment for pupils to develop independent living skills as they reach the Senior Phase.  Meadowpark is linked to Knox academy, and as such, pupils can access a wide variety of mainstream lessons and other inclusion activities.

The successful candidate will work closely with class teachers, learning support assistants and our newly appointed Pupil Support Worker, to help the provision achieve its aim of providing a highly effective and personalised approach.  

The School and Family Support Worker will provide the vital link between home and school in order to remove barriers, promote engagement,  well-being and support the whole family unit.

Candidates must have the ability to to engage pupils that have communication difficulties related to Autism and associated complex needs as well as proven experience of working with vulnerable young people and families.  A sound understanding of support networks and wider agencies is also required, as is a commitment to professional development.

This post is temporary for 1 year in the first instance.

Job Requirements

Relevant Qualifications
Educated to SVQ Level 1, General Standard Grade, National 4 or equivalent in 

Driving Licence 
A full current driving licence is desirable for this post.

This post is considered as Regulated Work with vulnerable children and/or protected adults, as specified in the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007.
