We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Engineer to join a flexible team of professionals in delivering a high quality service within the Roads Structures Team. We are looking for a self-motivated individual who has experience of the management of all structures associated with the road network. Experience of inspection, assessment, design and maintenance of bridges, culverts and retaining walls is required and surveying and project management skills relating specifically to the Civil/Structural Engineering discipline within a Road related environment is desirable. You will have good analytical and numerical skills and must be capable of developing innovative solutions and provide Technical support. The candidate will require excellent planning and organisational skills along with the ability to complete and implement projects within target deadlines.
The candidate will need to be confident with excellent verbal and written communication skills who can quickly establish good working relationships. You will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team of Engineering staff and will engage with a wide and diverse audience including Technical and non-Technical.
It is expected that the individual will be suitably qualified to degree level in Civil or Structural Engineer, Chartered membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar or able to demonstrate that you are actively progressing towards Chartership. You will be working in an office environment and will be expected to travel efficiently and effectively between various work locations within beautiful East Lothian . You will need to have an ability to work flexibly to meet the needs and demands of the service. To deliver a high quality service within the Road Services' Structures Team by ensuring the efficient and effective design, management and supervision of construction projects which will extend to roads, bridges, retaining walls, harbours, coastal protection and fold defences.

Education: Must hold a degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and if not already attained must be able to demonstrate that they are actively progressing towards Chartered membership of the Institution of Civil Engineers or similar professional body.
This post involves accessing the public services network, therefore the preferred candidate will be subject to the Baseline Personnel Security Standards (BPSS). The preferred candidate will be subject to a Basic Disclosure provided by Disclosure Scotland prior to a formal offer of employment being made by East Lothian Council.
